Drakensberg Grand Traverse, Safari & Yoga Trek

The Grand Traverse: A Journey of Power and Cosmic Alignment

March 5 – 19, 2027 | The Drakensberg & Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park

This is an invitation to reclaim your authority through a 245 km physical and celestial odyssey. Led by Dr. Nitasha Buldeo & a team of mountaineers & conservationists, this expedition is a masterclass in endurance and restoration, moving from the jagged basalt spires of the “Dragon Mountains” to the ancient, predator-rich landscapes of the Zululand bush.

The Drakensberg Grand Traverse: The Splendour of the IYogaa Way

The Drakensberg Grand Traverse (DGT) is legendary, traditionally undertaken from North to South. In that traditional direction, hikers tackle the iconic Amphitheatre within the first few hours—essentially starting with the climax and spending the next 200 km walking away from the most dramatic architecture.

We choose a different power. By trekking South to North, we engage in a 10-day physical and visual crescendo. We begin in the rolling, ancient foothills of the south, slowly building our physical authority as the peaks grow in height and the basalt walls become more vertiginous. We don’t just hike; we journey toward the “Grand Reveal.”

Phase I: The Alchemical Ascent

March 6 – 15, 2027 | Bushman’s Nek to the Sentinel

  • The Visual Crescendo: While the southern Berg is vast and pastoral, the north is vertical and commanding. By the time we reach the Amphitheatre—a 5 km wall of rock rising 1,200 meters—you are at the peak of your conditioning, stepping into a cathedral of stone for the final act.

  • Superior Acclimatization: Starting in the south allows for a more gradual ascent, giving the body time to adapt to the 3,000m+ altitude before reaching the technical northern spires.

  • The Sun’s Path: Walking North keeps the sun primarily at your back or side, perfectly illuminating the escarpment faces before you for unparalleled clarity and perspective.

The Night Skies: A Celestial Map

Trekking, Yoga & Safari South Africa

This trek is timed to the ancient rhythms of the cosmos, treating the night not just as a time for rest, but for navigation.

  • The Void (March 8 New Moon): In the remote southern sections, light pollution is non-existent. Under the New Moon, the stars are so bright they cast shadows. We will look to the Southern Cross and Orion to anchor our journey in the “Void” of pure potential.

  • The Illumination (March 15 First Quarter): As the terrain becomes more jagged, the moon returns. The First Quarter Moon will silver the sheer 1,000-meter drop of the Tugela Falls and the “Dragon’s Teeth” pinnacles, providing a celestial blueprint for our final crossing.

Phase II: The Restoration of Authority

March 15 – 19, 2027 | Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve

From the thin air of the peaks, we descend into the heart of the Zululand bushveld. We trade the “Barrier of Spears” for the deep history of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi, the oldest proclaimed nature reserve in Africa and the global cradle of rhino conservation.

  • Animal Energy in the Cradle of Life: In these ancient hills, we shift from the effort of the climb to the keen observation of the predator.

    • The Rhino: If the Berg taught us endurance, the Rhino teaches us presence. Observe the grounded, ancient resilience of these heavyweights in their ancestral home.

    • The Predator: Connect with the quiet, undeniable authority of the Lion and the elusive Leopard as they navigate the rolling topography of this 96,000-hectare wilderness.

  • Integration: Here, among the fever trees and ancient riverbeds, we translate the lessons of the 245 km traverse into a sustainable personal power. We move from the grit of the mountain to the grace of the wild.
